The area known as "Sweet Auburn" is the location of the Martin Luther King Jr. National Historic site. This area was considered the thriving center for Black enterprise in Atlanta from the 1890's to the 1940's and is the birthplace of the Nobel Peace Prize winner, Martin Luther King, Jr. Explore Dr. King's birth home and museum located at The King's Center.
Atlanta Festivals
Atlanta hosts numerous festivals, celebrations and parades such as the Atlanta Dogwood Festival, Georgia Renaissance Festival, and National Black Arts Festival. The Atlanta Dogwood Festival is a springtime tradition started in 1936 by Walter Rich of Rich's Department stores to bring everyone out of the doldrums around the Great Depression. Now having been celebrated for over 75 years, The Atlanta Dogwood Festival is the first big event of springtime in Atlanta.
